Lining Application: Sodium Hypochlorite
Many systems can be used when lining tanks or dikes (secondary containments) for the storage or protection against sodium hypochlorite (bleach). The linings used for the protection against bleach in splash resistance applications within containment pits is Ceilcote’s Flakeline 242. To protect against cracking of the substrate, Ceilcote’s mat reinforced Flakeline 242 (MR 242) is recommended. For immersion service on the interior of carbon steel tanks, Ceilcote’s Lining 652 or Chlorobutyl 4624 rubber is recommended. For technical information on the abovementioned lining systems, please contact us.
Over the last 30 years, rubber has been the predominate lining system used for bleach immersion service. Although an effective option, rubber is very expensive to install, and extremely costly to repair and maintain as all affected or failed areas must be totally stripped and relined. Ceilcote’s MR 242 and Lining 652 have a longer life expectancy than the rubber lining. These lining systems are also extremely economical comparatively. In most circumstances, these Ceilcote systems only require a light sand blast and reapplication of the resin rich top coat to bring the lining back to its as-applied status.
An additional lining for secondary containment can also be flexible sheet goods such as polyethylene or flexible PVC. These linings have a decreased life expectancy compared to the above mentioned systems due to the embrittlement that occurs when exposed to UV rays over time (i.e. reduced elongation to break).
